MELBOURNE - Jun 28/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary:
Severe Weather Warning for hazardous winds in Alpine Areas. Strong Wind Warning
for coastal waters south of Broken Bay for Monday morning. For the latest
warning information please check the Bureau's web site
http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/nsw
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
NSW will a fine Sunday due to the presence of a large high pressure system which
will drift slowly into the Tasman Sea. This will allow a deep low pressure
trough to move towards Tasmania on Monday; a system expected to generate another
significant burst of windy weather across the southeast of the country. Winds
will increase over the south of the state on Monday and will probably attain
their strongest on the Tuesday when strong to gale force west to southwest winds
are likely. They will ease over the inland on Wednesday but are still expected
to be a feature of the weather in the southeast on Wednesday and Thursday,
albeit slightly less. Rainfall associated with the low will be largely confined
to the western slopes of the ranges, especially in the south, with snowfalls for
the Alpine region during the first half of the new week. In the longer term the
winds are forecast to tend more southerly later in the week with showers
developing about the coastal fringe.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny throughout, just some high cloud in the south. North to
northwest winds, freshening about southern parts during the afternoon.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers developing about the southern inland, extending to the western
slopes of the central ranges in the evening. Snow showers developing on the
Alps. Fine remainder. Northwest winds, strengthening over southern parts then
tending westerly later.
Forecast for Tuesday
Northwest to southwest winds, strong to gale force about the south. Isolated
showers or drizzle, chiefly on the western slopes of the ranges and the far
South Coast. Showers more scattered about the southeastern inland. Snow showers
on the Alps. Fine remainder.
Forecast for Wednesday
West to southwest winds, remaining strong and gusty in the southeast. Isolated
light showers or drizzle persisting about the western slopes of the southern and
central ranges. Some further snow showers about the Alps. Fine remainder.
